For every Muslim, sacrifice is an idol, and forbearance, sabr, the perpetual worship of that idol. The worship of the idol of sacrifice is furthest developed amongst the Palestinians Arabs, who go to extraordinary lengths to propitiate it with the sacrifice of specially-raised children.
